Exterior painting on older Kingston homes
Homes near the canal and the millpond see plenty of moisture, and that shows up as mildew, chalking and tired trim. On exteriors we soft wash the surface first, at low pressure, so paint goes onto something clean rather than onto mold and residue. Low pressure matters on stone, stucco and aged clapboard, where a heavy power washer can do more harm than good.
We paint clapboard, trim, shutters, doors, porches and railings, glaze old wood windows and spot prime bare wood before the finish coats. On a period village home the goal is a clean, even finish that respects the character of the house instead of burying it.
