Deck cleaning, sanding and refinishing
A deck is outside in the weather all year. We clean it, sand it back and refinish it so it looks right again and stays protected. Decks, railings, stairs, fences and patios across Somerset and Mercer County.
Peeling stain, mold spots and grey wood
A deck adds usable space and value to a house, and it takes more weather than any other part of it. Sun breaks the finish down, rain and shade grow mildew, and once the stain starts peeling, water gets into the wood.
If your deck is greying, blotchy, slippery in the shade or losing its finish, it is not too late. Cleaning and refinishing a sound deck costs a fraction of replacing it, and it buys you years.
What we do
- Soft wash the surface to remove mold, mildew and grime
- Sand back peeling and rough areas
- Refinish with stain or paint suited to the wood
- Railings, spindles, stairs and skirting included
- Fences cleaned and refinished the same way
Do not let a pressure washer near an old deck
High pressure on wood raises the grain, leaves wand marks and can take the stain off in strips. We soft wash decks at low pressure and let cleaning solution deal with the mildew, then sand only where sanding is needed.
1. Clean
Low pressure wash with the right solution to kill mildew and lift ground in dirt.
2. Sand
Rough boards, splinters and peeling patches sanded so the new finish has something to hold.
3. Refinish
Stain or paint applied evenly, including rails and stairs, so the whole deck matches.
Patios, walkways and fences
Most deck jobs come with a patio, a set of steps or a fence that needs the same attention. We can power wash hard surfaces like pavers and concrete at the same visit, and clean or refinish fencing so the whole yard matches.
- Paver patios and walkways power washed
- Concrete steps and driveways
- Fences cleaned, stained or painted
- Pergolas, porch rails and posts
Deck questions
Can my deck be saved or does it need replacing?
If the structure and the boards are sound, refinishing is almost always the better value. If boards are soft, rotten or the framing has gone, we will tell you straight rather than put finish over a problem.
Stain or paint?
Stain suits most horizontal deck surfaces because it wears more gracefully and does not peel in sheets. Paint works well on railings, risers and skirting. We will recommend based on what is on there now and the condition of the wood.
How long does a deck take?
A typical deck is a couple of days: wash, let it dry properly, sand, then finish. Wood has to be dry before finish goes on, so weather sets the pace more than we do.
Can I use the deck straight after?
We will tell you the cure time for the product we use on your deck. Plan on keeping furniture off it for a day or two so the finish sets properly.
Do you do the fence too?
Yes. Fences get cleaned and refinished the same way and it is usually cheaper to do them in the same visit.
